Our Processing Methods
At Brewlant, every cup begins with intention, and how our coffee is processed plays a big role in its final flavor. We feature three primary methods across our lineup, each offering a distinct experience in the cup.
Washed Process
In the washed (or “fully washed”) process, the coffee cherries are first depulped to remove the fruit and then fermented in water for a short period. This helps break down the sticky mucilage, which is fully washed away before the beans are dried. This method results in a cup that’s clean, crisp, and well-defined, highlighting acidity, florals, and clarity.
Semi-Washed Process
This hybrid method blends clarity and complexity. The cherries are pulped, but a thin layer of mucilage is intentionally left on the bean. After a quick rinse, they’re dried slowly on raised beds. The result is a cup with added body and sweetness, but still with the structured balance you’d expect from a washed coffee.
Natural Process
In this method, the cherries are dried whole, with pulp and mucilage intact, on raised beds. Over several days, the sugars and fruit esters ferment and infuse into the bean. The result is bold, fruity, and intensely aromatic. Expect wild fruit notes, wine-like acidity, and heavier body.
Each method reflects both the terroir and the vision of the farmer, allowing us to bring you something singular in every roast.
